Training Practice
Swineshead Medical Group is a Training Practice
At Swineshead we are working with NHS Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire University, Nottingham University and Health Education East Midlands to train the doctors of the future.
To become a GP the doctor has to do:
- 5 Years at University studying medicine
- 2 years as a foundation doctor (FY1 & FY2)
- 3 years GP training - GP Registrars
At Swineshead we have been training GP Registrars for a number of years. They are qualified doctors who are working to become General Practitioner (GP's) under the supervision of Dr Whitfield, Dr Alam & Dr Shar. These doctors are valuable members of the practice team, bringing fresh ideas and new skills from their previous posts. Please extend a warm welcome to them - they are Lincolnshire's future GPs. Some consultations may be recorded for training purposes, but patient consent is always obtained before this takes place.
In 2020 we have agreed to help train Medical Students from Nottingham University and the new Lincoln University. These students will do short placement in the practice. They will see patients under strict supervision. The GP supervisor will only let the Medical Students see patients that they are confident the student will be able to diagnose and treat. The patient will be asked before the consultation by the supervising GP who will also check the diagnosis and treatment after the consultation.
If you are asked if one of these student can see you please consider the future of the NHS and how we need these students to get the best training possible. Please help us to help you.
In September 2020 we have also agreed to support 'Aspiring Medics'. These are year 12 students who are considering medicine. They will do a day or a weeks work experience placement in the practice. IF you would like to apply for a placement you need to contact the Lincolnshire Talent academy. For further information please email bosmedsch

Other Trainees
Medical students, student nurses, student midwives, student district nurses and trainee health visitors are occasionally attached to the practice. Patients will be informed if a student is accompanying a GP during consultations or home visits.
